How to protect my roof from hail damage?
Written on: June 21, 2023
As we all experienced last night, June 20th, 2023, hail storms can cause some serious damage to your customer’s property and home. The NOAA defines hail as “a form of precipitation consisting of solid ice that forms inside thunderstorm updrafts.” Hail storms can occur at any point throughout the year, but they are most common throughout the month of February to July. With current weather technologies, we can even predict where hail will strike within the hour of the storm coming. So, how can a homeowner protect their house, and more importantly their roof from hail damage? Find your answer below.
Routine Checks of Property Maintenance
A preventative measure to minimize hail damage done to your roof is to perform routine checks of your property and to make sure it is properly maintained. Make sure that you keep your trees well-trimmed around your house since storms with high winds tend to cause tree limbs to crack, break, and fall onto your roof. While performing these routine checks, make sure that your roof is in good shape, if it isn’t make sure you get it repaired to minimize damages.
Invest in Impact Resistant Shingles
If your roof is in need of repair, a good solution to prevent hail damage to your roof is to invest in Impact Resistant shingles. Some shingle manufacturers have created a test to classify their products as “Impact Resistant” and have made tiers to rank them. A few of the shingle brands that have a classification of “Impact Resistant” are the following: BP Mystique, Owens Corning Duration, and TAMKO Titan shingles.
